I
did a general BSc at Wits University after leaving DGC. However I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do until my third year, when I discovered
the ‘wonderful world of Molecular Biology. The BSc was followed by a BSc Honours and Masters in the same subject at
Wits. After spending eight years in Johannesburg I decided that I needed to do PhD somewhere else and thought I could combine this with some travelling. So I decided
to take a PhD position at the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC) in Lausanne, Switzerland. I’ve spent the last two years here and am halfway through the PhD. Amazingly I’m actually managing
to see some of Europe (My boss believes in work, work and more work!) and I’ve learnt to speak French!
