After leaving school I started a course at Technikon Natal in Food Service Management. It
was a 3 year diploma and at the end of it I could go into my own catering business etc. After the 3 years I lost interest
and decided to do a degree in education so went to Cape Town and did a Bachelor of Technology in post School Education and
qualified at the end of 1999. I then went onto the UK on a 2 year visa which later got extended to a work permit. I taught
Food Technology (home economics) at a high school for 4 and a half years which I thoroughly enjoyed.
In 2002
I met my husband Douglas at a pub in London. He is a lawyer and had been in the country for 2 weeks. We had a fantasic
time together in London travelling around Europe and visited Greece,Hungary France and Turkey to name but a few.In April
2003 i took him back to South Africa to meet the folks where we unofficailly got engaged. He and I wanted to wait
to I had met his folks, so in December 2003 we went New Zealand and I fell in love with the country all over again. He got
down on bended knee on New Years Day on Mount Hikurangi which is the 1st place in the world to see the sun...all very romantic!
We got married in South Africa in July 2004 at St James's and had the reception at Tala Game Reserve. We had the service
at St James Church for my dad and then had the reception in true African Style. We moved to New Zealand on the 20th of January
and are living in Laingholm,West Auckland where I am teaching High School Home Economics. No kiddies just yet but will keep
you posted!
