Hi DGC girls – it has been such fun reading all your entries. It took me right back to school days were the smell
of chalk was always fresh in one’s nostrils and Peanut Butter was the 6th food group. Everyone seems so well and has
ended up doing stuff they love. They say what is for you won’t go past you.
Flash back 10 odd years to, Cathy Deane scribbling dress designs during Afrikaans, Geraldine writing ‘Paul is
my pumpkin pie’ all over her notes, Jackie Nel, gazing out the window, keen to get into the great outdoors. Lorrin Everett
dreaming about the waves and the perfect surfer. Ok, Gina, I didn’t see that one coming, but then it sounds like you
didn’t either! And Gill, you must have been listening closely in Biology girl – 2 kids! Awesome stuff.I could
go on, but you get my point.
As, for me, I completed my PHD in advanced Brain surgery in 2001….Just kidding, but Sarah B, after reading
you entry, I couldn’t resist. Nuclear Physics - So you are a Rocket Scientist, right?
Yah, that was my second choice.
I ended up studying Psych at Pietermaritzburg University where I lived with Jess Cairns (was Stewart) & Nicky Jennings and 2 other
St Mary's girls for the 3 years I was there. I met my now husband, Brett, at Varsity and we dated from first year. We got
married at the beginning of 2004 and now live in our home in Earlsfield, which is near Wimbledon in SW London.
As far as interests go, I continued to play hockey throughout Varsity but stopped when I arrived in London. (Hockey in the UK is for Polar bears). My real interest at the moment is Triathlons and I am
off to Hawaii in October to represent SA at the World Age Group Champs. I was never one
to sit still for too long, that Ritalin never did take effect.
Brett and I have now been in the UK for 4 and a half
years and I work for Barclays as a Business Analyst. We plan to stay in London for another year
or 2 before travelling for a few months and then heading back to SA (either Durban or Jo'burg depending
on work).
We
have had plenty of trips back to SA in the last few years especially due to friends weddings and we were lucky enough see
both Kathryn Ashe and Jess Cairns in ‘White’. Nicky J has been snapped up too. However, one of the photos I included
with my entry was of a non - DGC friend of mine at her wedding. I though it an appropriate one to include due to the colour
I am wearing. (pic couldn't be uploaded for whatever reason - sorry Taryn, -Ed)
A
loyal College girl to the end.
I
hope you are all really well and stay really well.
